Students: We offer college credits at high school prices
Tuesday, March 16, 2010

Memo to Our High School Students: As you plan your courses for next year, remember that they could qualify for college credits at little or no cost. Last year, Medford students saved more than $900,000 in tuition and earned 6,774 credits from Southern Oregon University and Rogue Community College.

Anatomy and Physiology was the most popular SOU course, with 680 credits earned. Other popular courses were Introduction to Literature, Calculus and American History. In all, Medford students earned 3,173 SOU credits. All but a handful came through the Advanced Southern Credit program, which gives credit for courses taught at our high schools by our teachers. The remaining credits came through SOU’s Early Entry program, which allows young students to take courses from SOU instructors.

Our students earned 3,601 credits through RCC, mostly in the 2+2 program that gives college credit for approved high school courses. Computer skills courses were the most popular for RCC credits, followed by first aid-related courses, economics, and courses focused on algebra and mathematical functions.

In all, our high schools offer more than 65 courses that qualify for college as well as high school credit. Courses must be pre-approved by the schools involved to offer college credit, and most courses require a student to earn an A or B grade.

With the cost of college rising dramatically, you can realize big savings by earning college credits in high school. For more information on our college credit courses, contact the friendly counseling staff at your school.
